The 2010 Winter Olympics will begin with an elaborate opening ceremony. The ceremony will be held on February 12, 2010, at BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia and will feature, among other events and exhibits, the lighting of the Olympic cauldron. The choreographer for the opening ceremonies is Jean Grand-Maitre, who is the artistic director of the Alberta Ballet.
The ceremonies begin at 6:00 p.m. PST (9:00 p.m. EST) and will be broadcast live on NBC (CTV in Canada), as well as many other networks across the world. Both NBC and CTV will offer live online streaming of the opening ceremonies and most other Olympic events via their official websites
Although no official announcements were made regarding what specific format the opening ceremonies for the 2010 Olympic games would take, nor what type of performances it would contain, in the days leading up to the ceremony, several details about the event were leaked. Canadian music stars Bryan Adams and Sarah McLachlan will perform at the event, and Canadian Aboriginal drummers and singers will accompany Adams on at least one song, according to a source who attended a rehearsal
