Olympic Torch Malfunction

The 2010 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony Friday night had it’s own malfunction.

This one was the technical kind.

At the end of the nearly 3 hour ceremony four columns were supposed to emerge out of the BC Place floor along with the primary indoor cauldron. Each of the four columns were to be lit, their flames leading to the main cauldron.

But only three of the columns emerged and after several minutes–and no doubt several “Vancouver, we have a problem” backstage–hockey megastar Wayne Gretzky, Olympic ski champion Nancy Greene and NBA star Steve Nash, a British Columbia native, lit their columns while Olympic speed skating champion Catriona Le May Doan stood by helpless.
