The results of elections held in the state of Massachusetts, including the special election on January 19, 2010, to find a replacement for Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat, will be posted here as they are released. Republican Scott Brown, Democrat Martha Coakley, and independent Joe Kennedy are leading the polls for the seat.

During Election 2008, the major news outlets called Barack Obama the winner of the state of Massachusetts minutes after polls closed at 8 p.m. Obama went on to win enough electoral votes to win the presidency.CNN: Massachusetts Election Results3 John Kerry has been reelected to a fifth term in the Senate. Two of the three statewide ballot measures passed. One of those bans dog racing and the other decriminalizes possession of small amounts of marijuana.

The MA election result will be talked up as a bellwether event in the history of the 2010 midterm election. Like a canary in a coal mine, we will know a lot about where the two parties stand after the MA winner is declared by our elections desk. Is this the end of Obama’s agenda in Washington? Was socialism too much for the American people to swallow or will he press on like an ideological warrior? What if Çoakley wins?

Voting booths in Massachusetts open at 7am eastern time and close at 8pm local time, barring the usual shenanigans by partisan judges to keep certain friendly polling locations open later.
